LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Keshia Hines scored 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the University of Louisville women's basketball team to a 79-54 win against Northern Kentucky University in an exhibition game Sunday afternoon in Freedom Hall.
Ashley Rainey added 18 points and 12 rebounds for Louisville, which finished as the national runner-up in Division I last season. The Cardinals won the rebounding battle by a 51-35 margin and knocked off NKU for the second straight year in an exhibition game.
A year ago, Louisville posted a 90-73 win over NKU in The Bank of Kentucky Center.
Sophomore guard
Casse Mogan scored 12 of her team-high 17 points in the first half Sunday to keep NKU within striking distance, but Louisville took a 42-30 lead into the locker room. The taller Cardinals - despite having only seven players available and starting three freshmen - used their size to finish with a 54-22 scoring advantage in the paint.
Nikki Burton added 11 points for Louisville, which shot 45.8 percent from the field. The Cardinals also blocked nine shots and forced NKU into 20 turnovers.
NKU finished 18-for-58 (31 percent) from the field and was 3-for-17 from 3-point range.
Kendra Caldwell and
Whitney Levering each added eight points for NKU, with Caldwell grabbing a team-leading seven rebounds.
NKU begins the regular season Nov. 18 by playing host to UC-Clermont in The Bank of Kentucky Center at 7 p.m.
