Kelly Sullivan scored two goals as the Northern Kentucky University women's soccer team began play in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament Sunday by posting a 4-0 win against Rockhurst.
Amanda Mason added a goal and two assists for top-seeded NKU (16-2), which extended its winning streak to 11. The top-seeded Norse rolled to a 3-0-halftime lead and defeated eighth-seeded Rockhurst (7-10-1) for the second time this season.
Sullivan netted a goal off a rebound at the 14:19 mark to give NKU a 1-0 lead. Mason and Painter picked up assists on the play.
Laura Painter scored her first goal of the season at the 18:50 mark off a corner kick to make it 2-0. Mason then added a goal at the 44:15 mark to extend NKU's advantage to 3-0 at the break. Mason, a sophomore from Northwest High School in Cincinnati, now has eight goals this season
Sullivan notched her second goal of the contest at the 52:16 mark to cap the scoring. It marked the seventh goal of the season for Sullivan, a sophomore from Cleves, Ohio.
NKU finished with a 15-4 advantage in shot attempts. The Norse also held a 9-6 edge in corner kicks.
NKU, ranked 10th nationally in the NCAA Division II poll, has not lost since dropping a 2-1 decision at Indianapolis on Sept. 20. The Norse have since reeled off 11 consecutive victories.
NKU will play host to the GLVC semifinals and championship next weekend. The Norse face fourth-seeded Indianapolis in the semifinals at 5 p.m. Friday. The championship game is set for next Sunday.
NKU has won six GLVC Tournament championships, the last one coming in 2005.
