NKU women's tennis falls in heartbreaker to No. 36 Washburn

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Northern Kentucky University women's tennis team faced its second tough test in as many days, falling this afternoon to nationally ranked Washburn, 6-3.

The Norse (0-2) played tough in doubles action as Whitney Thomas and Kristen Sunday took Washburn's Morgan Rainey and Trang Le Nguyen to a 7-5 tiebreaker in the No. 1 doubles flight. At No. 3 doubles, Stephanie Isaacs and Jenny Hand bested WU's Annie Doole and Kristin McKee, 8-5.

The Norse picked up a pair of points in singles play at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions, with Hand going over Doole, 6-0, 6-2, and Maggie Koetter sweeping past McKee, 6-0, 6-0.

Thomas gave a solid effort against Whitley Zitsch in the No. 3 singles, coming back from a 6-1 first set to take the second, 6-4, before falling in the super tiebreaker, 16-14.

NKU returns to action on March 7, taking on Millersville in Hilton Head, S.C.
