KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Northern Kentucky University baseball team received outstanding pitching and plenty of offense Saturday afternoon while sweeping a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader at Rockhurst.

Dave Middendorf struck out 12 batters and allowed just four hits in seven innings as NKU coasted to a 7-1 win in the opener. The Norse then pounded out 14 hits during a 12-2 victory over the Hawks in the nightcap.

In the first game, NKU scored four times in the fourth inning to snap a 1-all tie. Brian Erie and Jason Cisper collected run-scoring singles in the fourth, while Pat Muth added an RBI double to cap the stanza.

Cisper led off the first game with a home run and extended his hitting streak to 36 games. In the nightcap, however, Cisper was 0-for-3 with an RBI and run scored.

Middendorf, a junior left-hander and a graduate of La Salle High School in Cincinnati, improved to 3-1 with the win.

NKU freshman Stevie Gipson-Eberhardt led the offensive charge in the second game by going 2-for-4 with four runs batted in. Evan McDole drove in two runs for the Norse, who used a six-run outburst in the third inning to build a 7-0 lead.

NKU's Kevin Jordan pitched five innings and scattered two hits to pick up the victory in the nightcap. The Norse improved to 9-4 overall, 2-0 in the GLVC. Rockhurst is 8-6 overall, 0-2 in the GLVC.

NKU concludes the road trip Sunday with a doubleheader against Quincy.
