COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Northern Kentucky University baseball team split a doubleheader at Ohio Dominican on Wednesday, winning the opener by an 8-1 score and dropping the nightcap, 5-1.
Jason Cisper and
Jeff Bohlen each doubled twice in the first game for NKU, which is ranked 24th nationally in the NCAA Division II poll. Bohlen also drove in a pair of runs in the opener, and
Max Colaner scored twice.
Four NKU pitchers –
Jarrett Casey,
Josh Blaum,
Jay Hale and
Andy Heston – limited Ohio Dominican to just two hits in the opener. Casey started the game and picked up his third win of the spring, while Blaum struck out three batters in three innings of relief work.
In the nightcap, Ohio Dominican built an early 5-0 lead and salvaged the doubleheader split. The Panthers (4-16) scored five times in the second inning, highlighted by a three-run double off the bat of Eian Banks.
Cisper drove in NKU's lone run with an RBI grounder in the fifth inning. Bohlen added two more hits in the nightcap for the Norse, who are 17-7 overall.
NKU plays host to Saint Joseph's in a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheaders this weekend, beginning Saturday at noon. The teams will conclude the four-game series Sunday with a noon start time. The games can be heard live at www.nkunorse.com.
