KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Northern Kentucky University's Emily Schwaeble went 4-for-7 on the day and picked up her first collegiate win as the Norse softball team picked up a pair of victories in Day 2 action at the Rebel Spring Games.

The Norse (6-6) slugged out 15 hits in a 10-2 victory over Clarion before using a one-hit pitching performance from April Ehlers to post a 5-0 shutout over California (Pa.).

Schwaeble, a graduate of Colerain High School, was tested early, having to get out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the first inning before coming back to slam a two-run double to left center field in the bottom half.

Rose Broderick came through with a three-run triple in the second inning, while Schwaeble brought her in on an RBI-single to extend the lead to 6-0. Katie Sullivan picked up her first collegiate base hit and RBI in the third, going back up the middle to plate Jamie Raabe.

The Norse picked up RBI-singles from Schwaeble, Raabe and Sullivan in the fourth to put the game out of reach.

Schwaeble (1-0) was solid in the circle, as well, scattering three hits and giving up two runs, one earned, while striking out seven in the complete-game victory. In addition, she went 3-for-3 with four RBI to lead the offense. Eight of the nine NKU starters collected at least one base hit, with four different players going 2-for-3 on the game.

Game 2 saw the Norse jump out to the early lead again, scoring on a Broderick RBI-single in the top of the first inning.

Ehlers was on fire from the start, retiring the first 11 batters she saw in order. She would help her own cause in the third inning, smashing a two-run double down the left field line to extend the lead to 3-0.

A defensive miscue from the Vulcans defense allowed Chelsea Luessen to plate a run in the sixth inning before Stephanie West added an RBI-single to right to a 3-for-3 performance.

Ehlers (4-4) allowed just one hit and struck out nine batters to claim her second shutout of the season. Gretchen Lorenz also stood out with a 2-for-3 Game 2 performance.

NKU returns to action at the Rebel Spring Games on Wednesday, taking on Shippensburg and St. Cloud State.
