HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University baseball team tied an NCAA Division II single-game record by turning six double plays in the opener of a doubleheader Saturday as the Norse posted an 11-7 win against Wisconsin-Parkside.
NKU turned double plays in each of the first five innings, and the Norse tied the NCAA Division II record by collecting their sixth twin killing in the eighth inning. NKU rallied from an early 3-0 deficit to post the victory and give Norse mentor

Asalon now has 345 wins at NKU, and he collected 144 victories while the head coach at Thomas More.
Shannon McCormick paced the offense by going 3-for-5 with four runs batted in. McCormick also hit his fifth home run of the season, a two-run blast in the second inning that cut the Wisconsin-Parkside lead to 3-2.
NKU tied the game at 3-all with a single run in the third inning, and the Norse took a 5-3 lead in the fourth on a two-run homer to left by
Max Colaner. Wisconsin-Parkside scored twice in the fifth to tie the game at 5-all, but NKU responded by plating two runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 7-5 advantage.
Leading 8-7 in the eighth inning, NKU took advantage of a pair of Wisconsin-Parkside errors to score three times and build an 11-7 advantage.
Bradley Vanderglas continued his torrid hitting with three hits for the Norse, while teammates
Jeff Bohlen and Pat Muth each added two hits.
Jason Cisper's 21-game hitting streak came to an end after the senior outfielder was 0-for-3 in the opener.
Jay Hale picked up the win in relief and finished with three strikeouts.
Kevin Jordan pitched three innings and struck out three batters to collect his fourth save of the season.
In the nightcap, NKU rolled to a 6-1 victory behind the pitching of
Ryan Schmidt (4-1). Schmidt scattered five hits in six innings on the mound and struck out five as the Norse improved to 26-11 overall, 13-5 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
Larry Pempek was 2-for-3 and scored twice, while
Evan McDole belted his fourth homer of the season with a three-run blast in the third inning. It was also home run No. 26 for McDole, who moved past his father, Kevin, for third place on the NKU all-time list.
Wisconsin-Parkside dropped to 10-23 overall, 5-13 in the GLVC.
NKU and Wisconsin-Parkside conclude the four-game series Sunday with a noon doubleheader. NKU moved into sole possession of first place in the GLVC East Division with the sweep on Saturday, as Indianapolis (11-5 GLVC) split a doubleheader with Saint Joseph's.
