HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Jason Cisper set the Northern Kentucky University single-season hits record Tuesday afternoon as the Norse swept a doubleheader from Kentucky State by scores of 11-0 and 9-2.

Cisper, a senior outfielder and a graduate of Moeller High School, lined a double down the right-field line in the third inning of the nightcap to pass Shaun Erie's previous school record of 83 hits, which was set in 2002. Cisper had tied the record in the first inning of the opener by launching a triple to right-center field.

Senior first baseman Evan McDole became NKU's all-time career leader for doubles in the first game when he sent a liner down the right-field line for a two-bagger that drove in a pair of runs. It marked the 54th career double for McDole, who passed Justin Rahschulte's previous NKU record of 53.

McDole drove in three more runs in the nightcap for NKU, which is ranked 18th nationally in the NCAA Division II poll. The Bishop Brossart High School graduate now has a team-leading 52 RBIs this season and 161 for his career, just 13 behind John Heeter's school-record 174.

Shannon McCormick went 3-for-3 in the opener, giving him 10 consecutive hits during a three-game stretch. McCormick was retired on a grounder to second in the nightcap to end the streak. He finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs in the second game.

Dave Middendorf and three relievers combined on the shutout in the first game. Middendorf struck out four batters in two innings and collected his sixth win of the season. It marked the third straight shutout for the NKU pitching staff, just the seventh time in school history the Norse have accomplished the feat.

NKU pitchers Ryan Schmidt and Chase Stewart each picked up pinch-hit singles in the second game, and fellow Norse hurler Brandon Slusher also singled in the opener.

NKU improved to 35-12 overall with the two non-conference victories and extended its winning streak to seven. Norse head coach Todd Asalon upped his career win total to 498 with the sweep. Asalon has 354 victories at NKU, and he won 144 games while the head coach at Thomas More.

Kentucky State dropped to 5-36 with the two losses. NKU now holds a 58-7-1 lead in the all-time series with the Thorobreds.

NKU hits the road this weekend for a four-game series against Great Lakes Valley Conference rival Kentucky Wesleyan. The Norse are in first place in the GLVC East Division with a 19-5 record.
