OWENSBORO, Ky. –
Jason Cisper and
Jeff Bohlen each hit home runs as the Northern Kentucky University baseball team rolled to a 13-2 win against Kentucky Wesleyan in the first game of a doubleheader on Sunday.
The second game was called due to rain in the bottom of the second inning with NKU holding a 1-0 lead. That game will be resumed at 11 a.m. Monday prior to the scheduled doubleheader between the two teams.
NKU improved to 36-12 overall, 20-5 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Norse, who have won eight straight games and are ranked 18th nationally in the NCAA Division II poll, clinched a berth in the upcoming GLVC Tournament with Sunday's victory.
Cisper, who led off the game with his third homer of the season, finished 3-for-5 with three runs batted in. Bohlen swatted a three-run homer during an eight-run outburst in the seventh inning that extended a 5-2 NKU lead into a 13-2 advantage.
NKU sent 13 batters to the plate in the seventh inning to blow open a competitive game. The Norse had six hits in the seventh inning, including Bohlen's fourth home run of the season.
Evan McDole was 3-for-5 and drove in three runs for the Norse. Bohlen collected four RBIs, while teammate
Brian Erie was 3-for-5 and scored twice.
Shannon McCormick was 2-for-3 and also scored two runs.

Dave Middendorf struck out 10 batters and picked up his seventh win of the season. Middendorf scattered eight hits before giving way to reliever
Kevin Jordan, who worked out a bases-loaded jam with none out in the seventh inning.

Todd Asalon notched his 499th career victory Sunday and can join the 500-win club Monday.
