Rose delivers clutch RBI single in eighth inning to give NKU 4-3 win against Wilmington

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Bryan Rose snapped a 3-all tie with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the eighth inning, and Northern Kentucky University held on for a 4-3 win against Wilmington (Ohio) on Wednesday afternoon.

Shannon McCormick began the winning rally in the eighth inning with a one-out single. With two outs, Brian Erie hit a grounder to shortstop, but a throwing error allowed him to reach and McCormick to advance to third base.

Rose stepped to the plate and singled on a 1-2 count, driving in McCormick to give NKU a 4-3 lead.

Kevin Jordan retired Wilmington in order in the top of the ninth inning. Jordan pitched 3 2/3 innings and struck out three batters to pick up the victory.

Bradley Vanderglas went 2-for-4 and scored a run for NKU, which won its third straight game and improved to 24-11 overall with the non-conference victory. Wilmington, an NCAA Division III member, dropped to 2-15 with the loss.

Norse outfielder Jason Cisper collected his 21st double of the season and is one away from tying the NKU record of 22, set by Pat Eschan in 2002. Cisper went 1-for-2 against Wilmington and is batting .500 for the season.

NKU resumes Great Lakes Valley Conference play this weekend at home, beginning with a noon doubleheader against Wisconsin-Parkside. The teams wrap up the four-game series Sunday with another noon doubleheader.
