Loyola Academy's Logan Spurlin has signed with NKU.
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky University's head baseball coach
Todd Asalon has announced Thursday the signing of Logan Spurlin during the early signing period.
Spurlin, a 6-foot-3 catcher from Loyola Academy in Wilmette, Ill. , finished his junior year with a .442 batting average. He also collected 34 RBIs and seven home runs for the Ramblers. Spurlin ended the season with a .539 on-base percentage and .740 slugging percentage.
Last season, Spurlin was named the 2011 Loyola Academy Most Valuable Player award for his efforts on the field. In addition, he received first-team Pioneer Press All-Area and Chicago Catholic League Blue Division All-Conference accolades.
“Logan is a great athlete, and we are looking forward to having him on this team,” Asalon said. “He has the potential to be our full-time catcher down the road.”
Spurlin is the first signee for the 2013 season and will help the Norse compete as the newest member of the NCAA Division I Atlantic Sun Conference. The Norse posted a 36-21 record last season and advanced to the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Tournament.
