KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Northern Kentucky University defender
Tommy Barrick was selected to the NCAA Division II All-America second team, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America announced on Monday.
Barrick, a senior from Gahanna, Ohio, earned first-team All-Region honors after being named to the All-Great Lakes Valley Conference first team. He has been a strong anchor at center back for the NKU defense over the last three seasons, quarterbacking a “Norse Wall” unit that allowed just 13 goals and only 57 shots on goal in 19 games during the 2011 season.
The captain also found his way into the offense as well, adding two goals to the team totals this year due in part to his imposing presence in the box on set pieces.
Barrick's selection marks the sixth NKU defender in the last five seasons to earn All-America honors.
The Norse finished the 2011 season with a 14-5 record and advanced to the NCAA Midwest Regional championship game. NKU will compete next season as NCAA Division I members of the Atlantic Sun Conference.
