KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Northern Kentucky University defender
Kevin Donnelly was named to the NCAA Division II Scholar All-America second team, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America announced on Tuesday.
Donnelly, a senior from Cincinnati, Ohio, earns the award after also being named to his second Capital One Academic All-District team by CoSIDA. Donnelly was an integral part of the Norse defense this season at right back, frustrating opposing strikers and turning the tides for the Norse himself as well. Donnelly and the “Norse Wall” limited opponents to just 13 goals and 57 shots on goal in 19 games last season. Donnelly also amassed three goals on the year, including the game-winner in a 1-0 decision over Wisconsin-Parkside.
Donnelly was also honored as a second-team All-Great Lakes Valley Conference honoree and earned All-Midwest region first-team awards from the NSCAA and Daktronics.
In the classroom, Donnelly maintains a 3.89 grade point average as a dual-major in political science and international studies.
The Norse finished with a 14-5 record in 2011 and advanced to the NCAA Midwest Regional championship game. NKU will compete as NCAA Division I members of the Atlantic Sun conference next season.
