CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Northern Kentucky University women's tennis team saw little success Friday afternoon on the road against the 34th-ranked University of Charleston as the Golden Eagles handily defeated the Norse, 7-2.
NKU was able to pick up a point in doubles action early on as the duo of
Jenny Hand and
Jillian Sturgeon downed UC's Marcela Torres and Christina Samoliov, 8-6.
Charleston (20-4) took the other two doubles points and five of the six singles flights for the victory.
Claire Spradlin, a graduate of Russell (Ky.) High School, was NKU's lone single victor as she trounced Samoliov in straight sets 6-2, 6-0.
The Norse nearly took one more team point in the No. 5 flight as Sturgeon took the first set, 6-4, from Mallika Mali, but lost the second set 6-4 and then the super tiebreaker 10-7.
NKU (3-3) will next be in action on Tuesday, March 22, as the Norse welcome Walsh to the Joyce E. Yeager Tennis Complex. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
