NKU baseball begins GLVC play by dropping doubleheader at Rockhurst on Sunday

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Northern Kentucky University baseball team began Great Lakes Valley Conference play Sunday by dropping a doubleheader at Rockhurst.

Rockhurst pulled out a 7-6 decision in the opener, and then completed the sweep with a 9-6 victory in the second game. NKU is now 8-6 overall, 0-2 in the GLVC. Rockhurst upped its record to 7-5, 2-1 GLVC.

In the opener, Rockhurst built a 6-0 lead and held off a late NKU rally. Randy Weinel hit a three-run homer for the Norse, who left the potential tying run at second base in the ninth inning.

Rockhurst rallied from a 6-1 deficit in the nightcap by scoring three times in the third inning and plating five runs in the fifth.

Brad Clement paced the NKU offense by going 3-for-3 in the nightcap. Brett Cisper hit his second home run of the season for the Norse.

NKU plays host to Urbana at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Champion Window Field in Florence, Ky.
