Brian Erie earned second-team All-Midwest Region honors from the ABCA.
ASHLAND, Ohio – Northern Kentucky University's
Dave Middendorf and
Brian Erie were named All-Midwest Region performers, the American Baseball Coaches Association announced on Friday.
Middendorf claimed first-team honors, while Erie was a second-team selection.
Middendorf, a senior from Cincinnati, Ohio, now stands second nationally in strikeouts with 127, after a 15-strikeout performance on Thursday in a 1-0 win over Quincy. It marked his second shutout in 2011 and improved his record to 9-3 on the season with a 1.73 earned run average. His nine wins are the most by a Norse pitcher since Matt Wiedman went 9-2 in 2004. Middendorf was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference and Daktronics Midwest Region Pitcher of the Year this season.
Erie, a senior from Louisville, Ky., stands second on the team, batting .339 on the season with 18 doubles and 26 RBIs. His running game has been big as well, as Erie claims eight stolen bases this year. Simultaneously, Erie has thrown out 22 potential base stealers on the year, just two short of NKU's single-season record of 24, set by Conor McGeehan in 2006. Erie claimed second-team all-region honors from Daktronics earlier this week.
