ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Northern Kentucky University pitcher Dave Middendorf continued to pile up the strikeouts during a 2-1 win against Lewis on Saturday.

Middendorf (7-3) struck out 15 Lewis batters and allowed the Flyers just four hits during the complete-game victory. The senior left-hander walked just one and upped his Great Lakes Valley Conference-leading strikeout total to 100 this season.

NKU snapped a 1-all tie in the fifth inning when Max Colaner led off with a triple and scored on a grounder to shortstop by Brett Cisper. Middendorf then went to work and did not allow a hit during the final five innings as NKU won its eighth consecutive game.

Lewis salvaged a split in the nightcap by posting a 2-1 victory against NKU. The Flyers pushed across two runs in the bottom of the fifth to pull out the win.

NKU starter Andy Heston (8-1) suffered his first loss of the season despite allowing just two runs. Heston scattered eight hits in six innings of work and struck out two batters.

Trailing 2-1 in the top of the seventh, Brad Clement and Bryan Rose had back-to-back singles to begin the frame. Lewis reliever Matt Frahm, however, retired the next three batters to notch the save.

Lewis starter Pat Lahey picked up the victory and had five strikeouts.

NKU is 27-18 overall, 17-13 in the GLVC. Lewis is 21-14 overall, 14-10 in the GLVC.

NKU and Lewis wrap up the four-game series with another doubleheader on Sunday. The Norse close out the regular season Monday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Bellarmine at the Bill Aker Baseball Complex.
