ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Northern Kentucky University baseball team clinched a spot in the upcoming Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament by sweeping a doubleheader from Lewis on Sunday.

NKU posted a 7-2 victory in the opener, and the Norse completed the sweep with a 5-3 win in Game 2. NKU is 29-18 overall, 19-13 in the GLVC. The Norse have won 10 of their past 11 games.

NKU starter Tim Clark (4-1) picked up the complete-game win in the opener by scattering seven hits in seven innings of work. The Norse plated four unearned runs in the fifth inning to turn a 2-1 deficit into a 5-2 lead.

Zac Asman collected a two-run single to highlight the fifth inning for NKU.

In the nightcap, Asman's three-run double in the fourth inning gave NKU a 3-1 lead. Brett Cisper later drove in Asman with an RBI single to extend the Norse advantage to 4-1.

NKU starter Jim Ryan (3-1) made the lead stand and went the distance, striking out four and walking just one. Lewis put two runners on base in the bottom of the ninth, but Ryan worked out of the jam and notched the complete-game victory.

Bryan Rose was 3-for-4 and scored twice for NKU, which won three of the four games against Lewis. Cisper and Asman each added two hits.

NKU closes out the regular season Monday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Bellarmine at the Bill Aker Baseball Complex. The Norse begin play at the GLVC Tournament on Thursday, either at Sauget, Ill., or St. Louis, Mo.

Pairings will be announced Tuesday night.
