NKU plays Saginaw Valley State on Friday in the NCAA Tournament.
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University softball team has received a berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament, and the Norse will meet Saginaw Valley State in the first round of the Midwest Regional in University Center, Mich.
NKU enters the NCAA Tournament with a 29-15 record, while host Saginaw Valley State is 35-16. The two teams will square off Friday at 1 p.m. in the first round. Indianapolis and Ashland will play in the other first-round game Friday.
The double-elimination event continues through Sunday. The winner of the regional will advance to the super regionals May 20-21.
The NCAA Division II national finals will be held May 26-30 at James I. Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Va.
NKU is making its third consecutive trip to the NCAA Division II Tournament and eighth appearance overall. The Norse won regional titles in 2004 and '05.
NKU and Saginaw Valley State played earlier this season, and the Cardinals posted a 4-2 win against the Norse in Kissimmee, Fla. Saginaw Valley State also defeated NKU in the NCAA Tournament two years ago in University Center, Mich.
