KENT, Ohio – The Northern Kentucky University women's track and field team had a blazing start to the 2012-13 season, setting eight new school records on Saturday at the Kent State Golden Flash Gala.

The Norse fielded sprinters for the first time since the 2009 season and came away with five records in the process.  Karena Fulks set the new mark in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.16 while Kendall Richmond's 9.56 was a new school record in the 60-meter hurdles.

Fulks had her second school-record performance in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.98.  Nicole Riveron set a new school mark of 42.40 in the 300-meter dash and Carolyn Dreyer rounded out the sprint records with a 1:23.55 in the 500-meter event.

Riveron, Destany Martin, Dreyer and Alicia Follrod also teamed up to shave more than three seconds off the school record in the 4x400-meter relay, posting a 4:19.47 result.

Freshman Tyler Thomas posted a top-five result and new school record in the high jump with a height of 5-3 (1.60m), and would have been NKU's only point winner in the unscored open meet.   Emily Grubb also set a school mark in the triple jump of 31-10.75 (9.72m).

Colleen McKiernan posted a pair of personal records in the distance events, posting a time of 5:38.33 in the mile and a 2:36.84 in the 800-meter race, both collegiate bests.  Kristyn Hooper also set a personal best mark in the 800-meter with a time of 2:46.74.

Kaitlyn Hooper added a top-10 finish in the 3000-meter race, crossing in 10:55.90 to finish ninth.

NKU's inaugural Division I indoor season will resume in earnest on Jan. 18, when NKU competes at the Gladstein Invitational, hosted by Indiana University.
