INDIANAPOLIS – Northern Kentucky University's Kevin Donnelly was named the 2011 Great Lakes Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men's soccer, the conference office announced on Monday.

Donnelly, a senior from Cincinnati, Ohio, adds this accolade to a vast list of postseason awards.  The defender was named to the NCAA Division II Scholar All-America second team by the NSCAA and the Capital One Academic All-District team, as well as the NKU President's List.  Donnelly was a second-team All-GLVC honoree on the pitch, as well as a first-team All-Midwest Region selection by Daktronics and the NSCAA.

Donnelly earned a perfect 4.0 GPA last fall in pursuit of a double major in international studies and political science and boasts a 3.916 cumulative GPA at NKU.

A captain for the Norse in 2011 and a vital part of the “Norse Wall” defensive corps, Donnelly netted three goals and added two assists this fall while helping the team hold opponents to just 13 goals in 19 games.  The Norse finished the 2011 season with a 14-5 record and an appearance in the NCAA Midwest Regional championship game.

Donnelly is the 30th NKU student-athlete to be honored as a GLVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year since 1998-99.

The league selects one student-athlete in each conference sport to be designated the GLVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The award is based upon athletic accomplishments, both team and individual, and academic performance in the season upon which the award is based. Nominees must have a cumulative grade point average which meets Academic All-America standards (3.30), and freshmen and first-year transfers are not eligible for the award.
