HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. –
Pat Williams' two-out single in the bottom of the sixth inning sealed a 3-1 victory over Lake Erie for the Northern Kentucky University baseball team on Saturday afternoon at the Bill Aker Baseball Complex.
Lake Erie put together a string of singles in the top of the fifth to give the Storm a 1-0 lead.
Kris Hecktor singled to spark the Norse rally in the sixth inning, after
Max Colaner grounded out to shortstop Reid Rizzo.
Brett Cisper struck out swinging for the second out of the inning.
Brad Clement singled to center field and advanced to second on the throw. Hecktor advanced to third on the play.
Williams' single to right center allowed both Hecktor and Clement to score for the 2-1 NKU lead.
Colaner hit his first home run of the season over the left field wall in the bottom of the eighth final run of the game for the Norse.
Clement went 3-for-4 with a run scored to lead the Norse. Williams finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Tim Clark earned his first victory of the season. He went six innings and only allowed one run on four hits. Clark collected three strikeouts for the Norse.
Brett Loeding replaced Clark in the seventh inning for his second save. He only surrendered one hit and struck out four batters.
Lake Erie scored two runs in the fifth inning to earn a split of the doubleheader with a 2-1 victory in Game 2. Garrett Emling and Rizzo scored to take a 2-0 lead for the Storm.
Cisper doubled to right center to bring home Hecktor for the lone run in the sixth. Clement hit into a double play to end NKU's comeback attempt.
Brian Kilway pitched 5 1/3 innings for Lake Erie to earn the win. He only surrendered one run on five hits and struck out six batters.
Doug Fox struck out two batters in the seventh inning to earn his first save of the season for the Storm.
NKU is now 6-7 on the season.
The Norse return to the field tomorrow afternoon for a single contest against Iowa Wesleyan, which is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at the Bill Aker Baseball Complex.
