HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Another solid pitching performance by Emily Schwaeble led the Northern Kentucky University softball team to a 2-0 victory over Quincy in Great Lakes Valley Conference action on Saturday.

The victory led off a doubleheader split in which the Norse fell, 12-5, in the nightcap.  NKU is now 10-6 on the year and 4-2 in GLVC play.

Schwaeble (8-1) scattered four hits and walked two while fanning 12 batters to pick up second shutout of the season.  Earlier this week, Schwaeble threw a no-hitter against Lincoln Memorial, winning the 3-0 decision.

Jessica Farris was the offensive standout, going 1-2 with a walk and two runs scored in the contest.  Farris scored in the first inning on a Kaylin Steinmetz single and later came around on a groundout by Mandi McQueen in the third inning.

The Lady Hawks (8-11, 1-3 GLVC) got the scoring started early in Game 2, putting up three runs in each of the first two innings.  The Norse came back with a run in the first and scored another in the third on the first of Steinmetz' two home runs in the contest.

After Quincy put up six runs in the fourth, Steinmetz struck back in the bottom of the fifth with a three-run bomb down the left field line, giving the freshman nine home runs on the year.  Steinmetz finished the game 4-4 with four RBIs and three runs scored.

Farris and Katelyn Roy also claimed two-hit games in the nightcap.

Alex Caudill (2-4) took the loss for the Norse, giving up six runs, four of them earned, on seven hits while striking out three.

Alanna Viken, Sara Stafford and Emma Topps each had three hits for the Lady Hawks in the contest, while Lauren Francis (6-7) struck out 12 in the circle to get the win.

NKU wraps up its conference weekend on Sunday with a doubleheader against Illinois Springfield.  First pitch is scheduled for noon.
