HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University softball team wrapped up its weekend of play with a doubleheader split against Great Lakes Valley Conference foe Illinois-Springfield on Sunday.

The Norse (7-11, 5-3 GLVC) won the opener, 2-0, but fell in Game 2, 10-0.  The Prairie Stars went to 6-6 overall and 2-4 in GLVC play.

Emily Schwaeble (9-1) was spectacular in the circle once again in Game 1, pitching perfect softball through five innings.  She ended up scattering three hits and striking out nine while picking up her third shutout of the season and her second in as many days.  Schwaeble also helped her own cause at the plate, going 2-3 with a double and an RBI.

In Game 2, the Prairie Stars got on the board in the second inning on the strength of Alyssa Sierzega's two-run home run to left field, her first of the season.  They tacked on one more on a Chelsea Minor RBI-groundout in the third.

UIS put the game out of reach in the seventh inning, scoring seven runs in the frame.

The Norse offense failed to capitalize with runners on base in the nightcap, stranding eight on the base paths in the contest.  Katelyn Roy went 2-2 with a walk and a double to lead the Norse offense.

Aubrey Watson (3-2) got the win for UIS, striking out four while allowing four hits and two walks. Brittany Sitton recorded her first save of the season, pitching two innings of hitless softball. Alex Caudill (2-5) took the loss for NKU, giving up three runs on seven hits.

The Norse hit the road this weekend for conference play against East Division rivals Kentucky Wesleyan and Southern Indiana.
