NKU baseball drops doubleheader against Quincy to start GLVC play on Saturday

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Ryan Richardson went 5-for-10 and collected 10 runs batted in as Quincy swept a doubleheader against Northern Kentucky University on Saturday afternoon at the Bill Aker Baseball Complex.

The Hawks used a four-run 12th inning to take home an 8-6 victory over the Norse in Game 1.

NKU owned a 3-2 lead going into the eighth inning, but Quincy put together a string of hits for a 4-3 advantage after the top of the inning.

Curran Collins doubled to right center to bring Mitchell Broughton home.  A Richardson sacrifice fly allowed Aaron Priestes to score the go-ahead run for the Hawks.

The Norse answered in the bottom of the inning to tie the game.

Phil Smith started the inning with a walk and was replaced by Josh Myers at first base.  Brett Cisper singled to left field, advancing Myers to second.

Pat Williams advanced both Myers and Cisper with a sacrifice bunt.

Zac Asman drew an intentional walk after a Quincy pitching change.  Myers scored when Jake Morris flied out to left field to tie the ballgame.

After three scoreless innings, the Hawks regained the lead for good in the top of the 12th inning.

Broughton scored to take a one-run lead, and Richardson hit a three-run home run over the left field wall to extend Quincy's lead to four.

NKU scored two runs in the bottom of the inning but the rally was not enough.

Brian Thompson came out of the bullpen to pick up the win for Quincy.

Collins led the Hawk offense in Game 1, going 4-for-6 with a run and an RBI.

Smith finished 2-for-2 with one run and an RBI for the Norse, while Asman went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and one run scored.

Richardson hit his second three-run home run of the day in the third inning of Game 2, as Quincy cruised to a 16-5 victory.

Richardson finished the nightcap 4-for-5 with five RBIs to lead the Hawks.  Collins also collected five RBIs and went 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

Max Colaner hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning to cut the deficit, but the Hawks added runs in the sixth and seventh innings for the final margin.

Colaner went 1-for-2 with three runs scored and three RBIs for NKU.  He also drew three walks for the game.

NKU fell to 7-9 overall, 0-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while Quincy improved to 7-7 overall, 2-0 in the GLVC.

The Norse return to the field tomorrow for a doubleheader against Illinois Springfield.  The first game is scheduled to begin at noon.
