HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Jennifer DeMotte led the University of Indianapolis softball team at the plate and in the circle to a doubleheader sweep of Northern Kentucky University on Sunday.

DeMotte's RBI-single in the eighth inning gave the No. 4 ranked Greyhounds a 2-1 victory in Game 1, while her pitching performance in relief led to a 9-2 decision in Game 2.  The losses dropped NKU to 17-11 overall and 9-7 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.

Indianapolis (26-1, 14-0 GLVC) freshman Casey Williamson hit a solo home run in the top of the first inning to give the Greyhounds the early lead.  The Norse responded in the fourth inning on an RBI-single from Dee Dee Davis.

After DeMotte's go-ahead single, the Norse had a chance with a base runner in the bottom half of the eighth when Natalie Papi reached on a fielding error, but she was stranded at first base to end the game.

Emily Schwaeble (13-3) took the loss for the Norse, giving up two runs on five hits while striking out nine.  DeMotte scattered eight hits but allowed just one hit while striking out six. Kaylin Steinmetz and Jessica Farris each managed two-hit games for NKU.

The teams traded runs in the first inning of Game 2 before the Norse pulled ahead in the second on a Katelyn Roy RBI-single, knocking Indianapolis starter Audrey Ernst out of the contest in favor of DeMotte (18-1), who settled down to throw another 5.1 innings of scoreless softball, striking out six.

The NKU lead was short-lived, as Indianapolis came back with a four-run third inning and never looked back from there.

The Greyhounds found their offensive stroke in Game 2, as each of their first eight hits, and 11 of their 15 hits overall, went for extra bases.  Samantha Krcelich had the big day, going 3-4 with three RBIs and finishing a single short of the cycle. Alexa Alfero also went 3-4 with a pair of doubles.

Steinmetz had another two-hit game in the nightcap, this time with a double and a triple and two runs scored.  Davis and Allie Conner also had two hits each.

The Norse conclude their six-game home stand on Wednesday with a doubleheader against Ohio Dominican.  First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
