SOMERS, Wis. –
Kari Lang and
Mandi McQueen each hit home runs to help the Northern Kentucky University softball team take an 11-2 win over Wisconsin-Parkside in Game 1 of a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader.
The Norse (20-12, 10-8 GLVC) came up short in the nightcap, falling by a 3-0 score.
The teams were scoreless through three innings before Lang got the first of her two hits in Game 1 in the top of the fourth, roping a single to centerfield to plate
Katelyn Roy, who led off the inning with a base hit.
McQueen led off the six-run top of the fifth inning with her second bomb of the year.
Allie Conner added an RBI-double and
Natalie Papi an RBI-single before Lang launched a three-run shot to close out the barrage.
The Norse added four more runs in the sixth inning, including two more off Papi's bat. All told, the Norse amassed 13 hits, with six different players claiming two-hit games.
Kaylin Steinmetz went 2-4 and added her 10th double of the season while
Emily Schwaeble went 2-4 with an RBI.
Schwaeble (15-3) got the win in the circle as well, surrendering a pair of unearned runs in the sixth inning and striking out 10Rangers.
Game 2 was a very different outcome for the Norse, who managed just four hits and stranded six base runners in the contest and advanced just one runner to third base in the contest.
The Norse will look to rebound on Sunday against an always dangerous Lewis squad. First pitch is scheduled for 1p.m. Eastern.
