BRISTOL, Tenn. – Kaylin Steinmetz hit a pair of home runs and Emily Schwaeble put on another stellar pitching performance as the Northern Kentucky University softball team claimed a doubleheader split with King College on Wednesday.

The Norse (9-5) won Game 1 by a 4-1 score, but saw their winning streak end at six games with a 6-5 defeat in the nightcap.

Steinmetz' first homer of the day led off a four-run fourth inning for the Norse in Game 1.  Michelle Carson hit a two-run single and Jessica Farris drove in another with the second of her two hits on the game.  In total, the Norse managed eight hits in the contest.

Emily Schwaeble (7-1) was on fire in the circle, striking out nine of the first 10 Tornado batters she faced on the way to a 15-strikeout game.  Fresh off her first career no-hitter, the junior carried another no-hitter through six innings before surrendering a run on two hits in the seventh inning.

Schwaeble got the scoring going in Game 2 as well, stroking a single to centerfield in the top of the first inning to bring home Farris.  Steinmetz got her second home run of the day and seventh of the season in the fourth inning to bring the lead to 2-0.

King (7-10) got a run back in the bottom of the fourth and struck for five runs in the fifth to take a 6-2 lead.

NKU's comeback charge started in the sixth inning when Schwaeble wrapped up her 2-4 day with an RBI-single to score Mandi McQueen.  The Norse scored two more in the seventh, but couldn't get the tying run home.

Alex Caudill gave up a run on four hits in four innings but did not factor in the decision.  Katelyn Roy (0-1) took the loss in her pitching debut, surrendering three unearned runs on two hits.

Schwaeble picked up two more strikeouts in the nightcap, and now needs just three more to tie Lisa Cornett for eighth on the career strikeout list.

The Norse return home on Saturday, hosting Quincy for a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader.  First pitch is scheduled for noon.
