HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky University baseball head coach Todd Asalon can add Nate Jones to his growing list of former players who have earned a spot on a Major League Baseball roster.

The right-handed pitcher from Butler, Ky., earned a spot in the bullpen for the Chicago White Sox after a strong performance in spring training.

Jones pitched for the Norse from 2005-2007 before being drafted in the fifth round of the 2007 draft by the White Sox.  He finished his junior season with a 2.88 ERA in 16 appearances.  He pitched two complete games, including one shutout, and added two saves.  Jones collected 60 strikeouts in 56 1/3 innings on the mound and held opposing batters to a team-low .185 batting average.

Jones spent last season with the Birmingham Barons in AA ball.  He collected 14 saves in 42 appearances, along with a 3.27 ERA.  He also struck out 67 batters.

Jones earned a save in 10 appearances during spring training to secure his spot on the opening day roster.  He finished with a 1.69 ERA and 17 strikeouts.

Jones becomes the fourth player in NKU history to make it to the game's highest level, the second under Asalon.
