HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Matt Maringer went 5-for-9 with three RBIs, two runs and two stolen bases as Indianapolis swept a doubleheader against Northern Kentucky University on Tuesday afternoon at the Bill Aker Baseball Complex.

The Greyhounds scored three runs in the top of the first inning and held off a Norse rally for an 8-7 victory in the nightcap.

Indianapolis held a 6-3 advantage going into the bottom of the fifth inning, but NKU scored twice to pull within one.

Brad Clement tripled to right-center to spark the Norse office.  After a pitching change, Phil Smith grounded out to third basemen Tyler O'Daniel.

Myers-Indy-double
Zac Asman drew a walk and stole second base.

Pat Williams followed with a single, which allowed Clement to score.

A single by Josh Myers to left field brought Asman home to cut the Greyhounds lead to 6-5.

Indianapolis scored twice in the top of the eighth to extend the lead, but the Norse responded once again.

Williams singled to left field to start the inning for NKU and advanced to third on a Myers' double.

Kris Hecktor, who pinch hit for Patrick Hyde, singled to right-center to bring home Williams and Myers.

Brett Loeding kept NKU in the game with a scoreless ninth inning, but Chris Saroff retired all three Norse batters to hold on for Indianapolis.

Williams went 3-for-4 with two runs, an RBI and a stolen base for the Norse, while Myers finished 2-for-2 with two runs and an RBI.

After NKU scored a run in the bottom of the third inning to tie Game 1, the Greyhounds used a three-run fourth inning to regain the lead and went on to win the opening game by a 6-3 score.

JaVaun West improved to 5-0 on the season for Indianapolis.  He collected nine strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings of work and allowed three runs on six hits.

Clement went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a double to lead the Norse.

NKU fell to 28-14 overall, 20-7 in the GLVC with the losses.

The Norse return to action this weekend with a four-game series against Wisconsin-Parkside in Kenosha, Wis.  The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday and Sunday, with the first pitch slated for 1 p.m. both days.
