KENOSHA, Wis. – Matt Jefferson led the Northern Kentucky University baseball team to a 7-2 win over Wisconsin-Parkside in the nightcap at Oberbruner Field to salvage a doubleheader split on Sunday afternoon.

Jefferson (5-1) went the distance for the Norse and only allowed one earned run.  The sophomore right-handed pitcher collected four strikeouts and only walked two batters in his second complete-game effort of the season.

NKU, which is now 30-16 overall, 23-9 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, jumped out to an early 1-0 after the first inning.

Max Colaner started the game with a double down the left-field line and advanced to third when Brad Clement grounded out.

Phil Smith grounded out to shortstop Ben Korman, but Colaner scored on the play.

The Norse added three runs in the fourth inning to extend the lead.

Jacob Chandler began the inning by walking Brandon Wood.  A sacrifice bunt by Kris Hecktor advanced Wood to second.

Patrick Hyde doubled to left-center to bring Wood home.

Bradley Vanderglas singled and was able to make it to third base on a throwing error by Chandler, and Hyde scored on the play.  A balk brought Vanderglas home for a 4-0 NKU lead.

The Rangers put a run on the scoreboard in the bottom of the inning, but the Norse added a run in the fifth and two in the sixth for a 7-1 advantage.

Taylor Nehls scored in the bottom of the ninth for Wisconsin-Parkside for the final margin.

Colaner scored twice and collected a double for NKU.  Clement added two RBIs and upped his season total to a team-high 40.

Wisconsin-Parkside (18-27 overall, 11-21 in the GLVC) overcame a three-run deficit in the opening game to earn a 4-3 victory over the Norse.

The Rangers scored twice in the bottom of the second inning to cut the NKU advantage to 3-2 and took the lead for good in the sixth to capture the win.

Andy Stochl (3-2) limited the Norse to two hits and only surrendered two earned runs during his complete-game performance to lead Wisconsin-Parkside.

The Norse conclude the regular season with four home games against Lewis next weekend.  The two teams meet for two games on Saturday and finish the series with two more games on Sunday.  First pitch for both days is scheduled for noon.
