HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University men's tennis team dropped a heartbreaking 4-3 decision against Mercer in Thursday's Atlantic Sun Conference tilt.
The Norse opened by taking the doubles point thanks to victories in the bottom two flights.
Andre Correa and
Christopher Angulo claimed an 8-5 victory over Peter Tauchner and Vincent De Lise while
Balint Zsidai and
Jody Maginley also got an 8-5 decision over Mercer's Anderson Scarpa and Austin Emmet.
In singles play,
Guillaume Berman ran his singles record back to .500 overall with a three-set win over Taucher, 7-5, 3-6, 6-2. Berman is now 7-7 on the year, including a 2-2 mark against A-Sun foes.
Mercer (4-11, 2-2 A-Sun) stormed back, however, taking wins in the No. 2, No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 singles flights to get the points for the victory before Correa was able to defeat Arsay Mohanty in a super tiebreaker at the No. 4 flight, marking Correa's first A-Sun victory and giving him a team-best 12th singles victory.
NKU is now 3-12 on the year and will seek its first win in league play on Saturday when the Norse host Kennesaw State. First serve is set for 1 p.m. at the Joyce Yeager Tennis Complex.
