JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Team rounds of 321-314 helped the Northern Kentucky women's golf team to a third-place finish at the Benbow Invitational on Tuesday. This marks the fourth time this season the Norse finished in the top-5.
Ryleigh Waltz led the way, finishing third. Waltz's 77-74 put her one stroke off the lead. Evansville's Kayla Kattenberry defeated Butler's Christie Cates on the first extra hole to win the individual title.
Mimi Cheepborisut carded rounds of 81-78 to provide the Norse with their second individual in the top-10. She shared 10
th with three other players.
Allison Leigeb and
Tara Clark carded NKU's other countable scores. Leigeb's rounds 80-82 placed her t-21
st, while Clark's scores of 85-80 were good for a share of 24
th.
Sarah Kellam rounded out Northern Kentucky's quintet. She finished 30
th (83-86).
A trio of individual Norse golfers were led by
Macy Wright, who finished t-14
th after carding rounds of 82-78.
Shelby Power tied for 31
st and
MacKenzie Laumann finished 48
th.
Butler claimed the team crown by two strokes over Evansville and four ahead of the Norse.
Norse Notes- NKU's third-place showing marks the fourth top-four finish in just seven events for the Norse. Northern Kentucky won its own NKU Fall Classic, placed second at the YSU Kickoff and tied-4th at the Braun Intercollegiate.
- With her third-place finish, Waltz now has three top-five finishes on the year.
