VALPARAISO, Ind. – the Northern Kentucky University women's tennis team cruised to its first Horizon League victory on Saturday, defeating Valpo, 6-1, at the Courts of Northwestern Indiana.
The Norse (6-7, 1-3 Horizon League) swept the Crusaders (1-12, 0-2 Horizon League) in doubles action with the No. 1 team of Sydney Power and Danielle Donahue clinching the point with a 6-2 win over Kathleen Hebble and Paige Heuer.
In singles, Nicole Soutar bested Halle Roach, 6-2, 6-1, at the No. 5 flight to get things started. Sierra Nellessen then followed with a 6-0, 6-4 victory at No. 6 singles.
Danielle Donahue's 6-2, 6-3 victory over Meg Modesto at No. 3 singles clinched the match with NKU claiming each of the first four points.
Klara Skopac also emerged victorious in a three-set battle against Hebble, 4-6, 6-0, 6-3, at top-flight singles, followed by Power's No. 2 flight victory over Heuer, 7-5, 6-1.
The Norse look to make it two-in-a-row on Sunday when they travel to UIC for an 11 a.m. match at the Flames Tennis Courts.
