CINCINNATI - The Northern Kentucky University women's track and field squad placed fourth (86 points) in a field of 11 teams at the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational hosted by the University of Cincinnati on Saturday.
In the 100m, DeMondrea Starnes took 10
th at 13.01, with
Jordan Hauck following in 11
th at 13.20.
BriAuna Keys tallied four points in the 200m taking sixth in a time of 26.25.
Samantha Shaw scored four team points in the 400m placing fifth in a time of 57.55.
Jessica Tegge and
Rylee Tanner notched top-10 finishes in the 800m with Tegge taking seventh for two team points in a time of 2:23.25 and Tanner claiming 10
th at 2:30.18. In the 5,000m,
Kelly Burrows notched six points with at third place finish of 18:21.67.
In hurdle events, Katie Zembrodt took fifth the 400m hurdles grabbing four points with a time of 1:09.09.
Shay LaFollette recorded a top-10 finish in the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.83.
Jennah Flairty, Kimmy Wolf and
Jaci Combs added a total of six points points in the 2,000m steeplechase with Flairty taking sixth (7:56.51, 3 points), Wolfe taking seventh (8:05.87, 2 points) and Combs taking eighth (8:36.25, 1 point).
The Norse scored big in the 4 x 400m relay with the "A squad" of Keys, Shaw, Shelly Menifee and
Nicole Riveron taking second for eight points in a time of 4:07.46. The "B squad" of Zembrodt, Tegge,
Hannah Thomas and Olivia Gosseling took sixth for three points at 4:23.66.
In the 4 x 1,500m relay, two Norse squads finished one-two on the podium. The "A squad" of Tanner, Tegge, Flairty and
Hannah Tobler took first (10 points) in a time of 20:38.03 and the "B squad of Wolfe, Burrows, Combs and
Catherine Finke taking second (8 points) at 21:35.53.
Starnes racked up more points in the triple and long jump events. She took first in the triple jump for 10 points with a leap of 12.02m (39'5.25"). In the long jump, Starnes took third for six points landing at 5.78m (18'11.75"). In the high jump,
Alyssa Frye hauled in four points with a fifth-place finish clearing (1.54m, 5'0.5").
Ashley Brown and
Erin Sherrer grabbed five total points in the shot put. Brown took fifth for four points with a throw of 13.35m (43'9.75"), with Sherrer taking eight for one point at 12.22m (40'1.25"). In the hammer throw, Sherrer took 11
th at 43.08m (141'4") with Brown taking 14
th at 39.60m (129'11"). LaFollette tacked on five more team points with a fourth place finish of 27.76m (91'1") in the javelin.
Cincinnati took first overall at the meet with a team score of 276 points. Ohio State took second at the meet with 111 points followed by Tiffin in third with 90 points.
The Norse return to action April 8-9 at the Western Kentucky Hilltopper Relays.
