The Northern Kentucky University athletic department is a seven-time recipient of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Commissioner's Cup, which was established in 2002 and is awarded to the GLVC institution with the most overall success in core conference-sponsored team sports over the course of a season. Those sports include men's and women's soccer, men's and women's basketball, volleyball, baseball and softball.
Institutions are awarded points based on the number of competing teams in each sport based on conference tournament finishes and regular-season results. The institution with the most points at season's end is awarded the traveling Commissioner's Cup trophy for the year at the GLVC Spring Meetings.
