Lott placed 17th nationally at the 1979 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships and earned first team All-America honors that year. Lott was the first athlete in NKU history to earn All-America honors, and he helped NKU post a 19th-place finish at the 1979 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships.
