Men's tennis bests Walsh, 6-1, in fall opener

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University men's tennis team claimed victory over Walsh University with a 6-1 win to start its season undefeated.
 
The Norse (1-0) opened the match by winning two of the three doubles flights. Pierce Kohls and Cameron Johnson came out on top with an 8-3 win again Pablo Cabezon and Louis Thomas while Andre Correa and Christopher Angulo also succeeded against Alex Portelance and Chase Pucci, 8-5.
 
NKU claimed a pair of comeback victories in the top two singles matches as Kohls fought back to defeat Diego Yung, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, in No. 1 singles while Christopher Angulo never dropped a game after the first set, defeating Cabezon, 2-6, 6-0, 6-0.
 
Andre Correa defeated Louis Thomas, 6-0, 7-6 (5), in No. 3 singles to give the Norse the team victory. Cameron Johnson and Balint Zsidai also took straight-set victories in their singles matches.
 
The Norse will head north this weekend to conclude their fall season at the Wright State Invitational in Dayton, Ohio.
