HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University volleyball team opened Great Lakes Valley Conference play Friday night by sweeping past Kentucky Wesleyan, 25-11, 25-15, 25-14, in Regents Hall.
Kim Nemcek led NKU (9-5 overall, 1-0 GLVC) with 12 kills and a .625 hitting percentage. The Norse attacked at a .537 clip for the match and remained perfect (39-0) in the all-time series against Kentucky Wesleyan. NKU has not dropped a set to Kentucky Wesleyan since Oct. 23, 1993.
Noelle Peterson finished with 10 kills and hit .467 for the Norse, while teammate
Sarah Drennen added eight kills and a .700 hitting percentage. Freshman setter
Jenna Schreiver directed the NKU offense and recorded 33 assists.
Schreiver, a Notre Dame Academy graduate, also served up four aces.
Shelby Buschur added three aces for NKU, which served up 13 winners as a team. Buschur also collected six kills and attacked at a .714 clip.
Kylee Tarantino added four kills and two aces for NKU.
Emily Harpenau led Kentucky Wesleyan (0-9 overall, 0-1 GLVC) with seven kills. The Panthers attacked at a .204 clip for the match.
Kentucky Wesleyan has now lost 114 consecutive GLVC matches. The Panthers' last conference victory came against Bellarmine on Oct. 31, 2001.
