HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University volleyball team remained perfect (3-0) in Great Lakes Valley Conference play by sweeping past Maryville (Mo.) Friday night in Regents Hall.
NKU rolled to a 25-11, 25-18, 25-23 victory against Maryville, which is in its first season of GLVC competition. The Norse extended their winning streak to four matches and improved to 12-5 overall. Maryville dropped to 1-9 overall, 0-3 in the GLVC.
Freshman outside hitter
Gennie Galfano led NKU by hitting .875 with seven kills in eight attempts. Freshman setter
Jenna Schreiver celebrated her 18th birthday Friday night by recording 32 assists, four kills and a .667 hitting percentage.
Schreiver, a Notre Dame Academy graduate, directed the NKU offense to a .369 hitting percentage. The Norse attacked at a .391 clip in the first set and followed that with a .500 hitting percentage in the second set.
Noelle Peterson finished with 10 kills, while
Sarah Drennen added nine kills and attacked at a .400 clip.
Kim Nemcek also collected nine kills and hit .375 for the match.
Chelsea Clark paced the NKU defense with eight digs and also added a pair of service aces.
NKU hits the road next week for GLVC matches against Rockhurst (Friday) and Drury (Saturday).
