Whitney Levering stole a pass in the closing seconds and then made a pair of free throws as the Northern Kentucky University women's basketball team held on for a 57-54 victory at Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday.
NKU owned a 55-54 lead with 12.7 seconds remaining in the game, but Kentucky Wesleyan brought the ball up the floor with a chance to win following a Norse turnover. Levering, however, stole an entry pass inside and was fouled with 3.2 seconds left on the clock.
Levering converted both free throws to extend NKU's lead to 57-54. After two timeouts, Kentucky Wesleyan turned the ball over, and the Norse escaped with the victory. Levering, a sophomore center, finished with 10 points, four rebounds and two steals.
Casse Mogan scored 15 points to lead NKU, which won its 10th consecutive game and improved to 19-6 overall.
Rachel Lantry added 14 points for the Norse, who moved to 13-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
Lantry also added seven assists and two blocked shots.
Brandi Rayburn finished with nine points and nine rebounds for NKU, which is now 51-5 all-time against Kentucky Wesleyan.
Jennifer Coronelli scored 12 points for Kentucky Wesleyan, which dropped to 12-13 overall, 5-11 in the GLVC. Jordan Ogle added 11 points for the Panthers.
NKU returns home and will meet Southern Indiana – which knocked off previously unbeaten Indianapolis on Saturday - at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in The Bank of Kentucky Center.
