David Palmer has been selected as the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week in men's basketball, the league office announced Monday.
Palmer collected a pair of double-doubles last week to lead the Norse to two wins. He scored 16 points and grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds as NKU pulled off a 65-61 upset of No. 14 Drury on Thursday. Palmer, a 6-foot-9 senior center, also blocked five shots and altered several other attempts in that victory.
On Saturday, Palmer scored 17 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in a 72-54 win against Missouri S&T. NKU has won two straight games and is 13-10 overall, 6-8 in the GLVC.
For the season, Palmer averages a team-leading 17.0 points and 8.6 rebounds per game (No. 1 in the GLVC). He has collected seven double-doubles this season and leads NKU with 43 blocked shots.
NKU plays a pair of key GLVC East Division road games this week, beginning with a Thursday night contest at Bellarmine that tips off at 8 p.m. The Norse conclude the road trip Saturday with a 4:15 p.m. game at Kentucky Wesleyan.
