INDIANAPOLIS – Northern Kentucky University has been selected as the site for the 2012 and 2013 NCAA Division II men's basketball Elite Eight, the NCAA announced Friday.

NKU will host the event inside The Bank of Kentucky Center in Highland Heights, Ky. The Bank of Kentucky Center is a 9,400-seat facility that opened in 2008.

The NCAA Division II Elite Eight features the winners of the nation's eight regions in men's basketball. Next year's event will be held in Springfield, Mass., followed by a two-year stay in Highland Heights, Ky.

From 1995-2000, the NCAA Division II Elite Eight for men's basketball was held in Louisville, Ky., inside the Commonwealth Convention Center. NKU advanced to the national championship games in both 1996 and '97 while the event was hosted in Louisville.

“This is an outstanding opportunity for us to bring individuals from all over the country to northern Kentucky and Highland Heights.” said Dr. Scott Eaton, NKU director of athletics. “To be able to showcase Northern Kentucky University and The Bank of Kentucky Center to a national audience during the NCAA Division II premier event is both an honor and an opportunity that we look forward to.

“With the national championship game on CBS television, it will allow a number of viewers around the country to see an outstanding event in a first-class facility like The Bank of Kentucky Center.”

NKU is a member of the Great Lakes Valley Conference and competes in the Midwest Region.
