HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky University volleyball team picked up its first victory of the season Tuesday night by rallying past the College of Mount St. Joseph, 21-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-18, in Regents Hall.

Sophomore middle hitter Shelby Buschur recorded 19 kills and hit .353 as NKU (1-4) defeated the visiting Lions (3-3). Sophomore setter Jenna Schreiver collected 43 assists and 15 digs as the Norse improved to 22-11 all-time against Mount St. Joseph. Schreiver also attacked at a .778 clip with seven kills in nine attempts.

Noelle Peterson added 12 kills for NKU, which began the season by facing four consecutive teams ranked in the NCAA Division II national poll. The Norse lost to No. 1 Concordia-St. Paul, No. 5 Central Missouri, No. 13 Nebraska-Kearney and No. 3 Tampa to open the season.

With the match tied at a set apiece and Mount St. Joseph holding a 20-19 lead in the third stanza, NKU used a 6-3 run to win the game. Buschur converted a pair of key attacks to spark the run, including a kill that gave NKU a 25-23 win.

NKU served up 10 aces for the match, with Buschur and freshman Anna Prickel each serving up three aces. Buschur also added six blocks for NKU.

Kylee Tarantino paced the NKU back row with 16 digs. Prickel and Chelsea Clark each finished with eight digs for the Norse.

NKU plays host to Charleston (W.Va.) Wednesday night in Regents Hall at 7 p.m. The Norse also play host to a two-day tournament Friday and Saturday in Regents Hall, with NKU facing Wheeling Jesuit at 1 p.m. Friday.
