HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. –
Noelle Peterson recorded 16 kills and hit .400 Wednesday night as the Northern Kentucky University volleyball team posted a 25-10, 24-26, 25-17, 25-13 victory against Charleston (W.Va.) in Regents Hall.
Gennie Galfano added 12 kills and attacked at a .348 clip for NKU (2-4), which won its second straight match. The Norse also served up 16 aces as a team, with
Kylee Tarantino leading the way with five aces.
Jenna Schreiver dished out 44 assists and collected nine digs as NKU remained perfect (9-0) in the all-time series against Charleston. The Norse hit .423 during the first set to roll to a 25-10 victory, but Charleston fought back to pull out a 26-24 win in the second stanza to tie the match at one set apiece.
NKU served up five aces in the third set and coasted to a 25-17 win, and the Norse held Charleston a -.207 hitting percentage in the fourth set to clinch the victory.
Shelby Buschur finished with 10 kills and seven blocks for NKU, while teammate
Katie Sommer added eight kills and a .583 hitting percentage.
Tarantino led the NKU defense with 17 digs, and
Chelsea Clark added 10 digs. The Norse held a 50-30 advantage in digs and held Charleston (0-4) to a .058 hitting percentage.
Buschur and
Anna Prickel each served up three aces for NKU. Schreiver and Peterson both added two aces.
NKU plays host to a two-day tournament Friday and Saturday in Regents Hall, with the Norse facing Wheeling Jesuit at 1 p.m. Friday. On Saturday, NKU plays California (Pa.) at 10 a.m. and later meets Gannon (Pa.) at 4 p.m. to conclude the event.
