McDonald named Lou Henson all-american

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The postseason accolades continue to roll in for Northern Kentucky men's basketball's Drew McDonald, who was named to the Lou Henson All-American Team. The Lou Henson team honors the nation's top-40 mid-major men's basketball players, a list from which will come the Lou Henson Player of the Year.

McDonald is 162nd in the country in scoring at 17.0 points per game and his 9.6 rpg rank 27th in the nation. The junior forward was a double-double machine this year, posting the 11th-most in NCAA this year with 18.

The native of Cold Spring, Kentucky, is also putting an assault on NKU's record books. After just three seasons, McDonald has racked up 1,431 points and 762 rebounds, totals that rank 11th and 5th, respectively, in Northern Kentucky's annals. He is already the career record-holder in defensive rebounds (565).

At the conclusion of the Horizon League regular season, McDonald was named to the all-league first team and all-academic teams for the second time each.

Under McDonald's leadership, Northern Kentucky has posted back-to-back 20-win seasons, which culminated in the league tournament title in 2017 and a league regular-season championship in 2018. NKU has also participated in the two most prestigious postseason tournaments during that time, earning a berth in the 2017 NCAA Tournament and 2018 NIT.
