Roger Lane completed his second year on the NKU men's soccer staff as a volunteer assistant coach in 2018.
This past season, the team finished with a 10-7 record. The 10 wins were the most for the program in the Division I era. The team also achieved a No. 9 ranking in the United Soccer Coaches North Region poll earlier in the season. The North Region included all four teams that advanced to the Final Four of the 2018 NCAA College Cup.
Freshman Alex Willis was named the Horizon League Freshman of the Year and to the All-Horizon League First Team. He was also selected to the United Soccer Coaches All-North Region Second Team and the Top Drawer Soccer Freshmen Best XI First Team, and the College Soccer News All-Freshman First Team. Willis finished the season ranked as the 11th-best freshman by Top Drawer Soccer. Sophomore Alex Grieve earned All-Horizon League Second Team honors, and freshman Stian Jørgensen was named to the All-Horizon League Freshman team.
Willis finished fourth in the NCAA in goals scored, Greive tied for fourth in total assists, and the team ranked ninth in the NCAA in scoring offense with 2.18 goals per match.
Lane previously served as assistant men's soccer coach at SUNY Maritime College (2016-2017). Lane earned his bachelor of science in exercise science (2013) and doctor of physical therapy (2016) from the University of Buffalo. He holds a D License and is currently working towards a C License from the United State Soccer Federation. Lane also holds an Advanced National Diploma and Goalkeeping Level 1 Diploma from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and is currently working toward a Premier Diploma.
In addition to working as an assistant with SUNY Maritime College, Lane recently worked with the New York Red Bulls (Major League Soccer) Youth Training Program as a head coach, as team trainer for the Long Island Rough Riders PDL and staff member on the University of Buffalo men's soccer team (2010-2016). Lane played collegiately at Farmingdale State College (2007-2009) and saw action with Pontifícia Universidade Católica (2009) of the Futsal League in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
