SOMERS, Wis. – Eric Ashworth and Steven Beattie each netted goals to lead the Northern Kentucky University men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Wisconsin-Parkside in Great Lakes Valley Conference play on Friday afternoon.

NKU (5-0, 1-0 GLVC) dominated play from the opening kickoff by outshooting the Rangers (3-1, 0-1 GLVC) by a 22-6 margin. The Norse, who are ranked No. 1 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll, tallied their first goal in the closing minutes of the first half when Stephen O'Brien started the play with a corner kick. Tony Ray found the loose ball and passed it across to Ashworth, who netted his second goal of the season.

Beattie's insurance marker came in the 84th minute when the sophomore took a pass from Anthony Meyer to convert his GLVC-leading seventh goal of the season.

Michael Lavric faced his typical workload on the afternoon, making one save while securing his 12th career shutout. UWP's Greg Fischer had seven saves on the other end.

The game was almost a repeat performance of last Sunday's contest against Findlay, when Ashworth scored the game-winning tally while Beattie provided the insurance marker in a 2-0 win.

NKU extended its regular-season winning streak to 27 games. NKU is also unbeaten in its last 33 contests (32-0-1).

The Norse's last regular-season loss was on Sept. 15, 2006, when Missouri-Rolla (now Missouri S&T) defeated NKU, 2-1.

NKU has a GLVC showdown against No. 11 Lewis in a Sunday matinee at Romeoville, Ill. The two teams traded 1-0 victories during the 2007 season, with the Flyers claiming the GLVC Tournament championship in their win.
