SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Steve Wilczewski netted a goal at the 78:43 mark to give the Drury University men's soccer team a 1-0 win against Northern Kentucky University in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament championship game Sunday.
Micah Whorton assisted on Wilczewski's team-leading 16th goal of the season, a close-in shot that snapped a scoreless tie. Drury, the top seed in the GLVC Tournament, improved to 20-1 overall and avenged a 2-1 setback to NKU earlier this season.
NKU, the No. 2 seed in the GLVC Tournament, dropped to 15-5-2. The Norse owned a 14-13 edge in shots but were unable to find the back of the net for the second straight game.
On Friday, NKU and Lewis played to a scoreless draw. The Norse, however, advanced on penalty kicks.
NKU is ranked No. 4 in the latest NCAA Division II Midwest Region poll. The Norse are expected to receive a berth in the NCAA Tournament on Monday. Drury is No. 1 in the poll and should be the host for next weekend's Midwest Regional.
