WILDER, Ky. –
Steven Beattie scored three goals Sunday afternoon as the Northern Kentucky University men's soccer team posted a 4-1 win against Bellarmine at the Town & Country Sports Complex.
John Swiastyn opened the scoring for NKU (6-0 overall, 3-0 Great Lakes Valley Conference) by netting his first goal of the season less than five minutes into the contest.
Paul Andrews and
Kevin Donnelly were credited with assists on the play.
Beattie made it 2-0 at the 40:28 mark by blasting a 25-yard shot into the back of the net off assist from
Jordan Grant and
Adam Latham.
After Bellarmine cut the NKU lead to 2-1 early in the second half, Beattie took a pass from
Seth Eckerlin and beat Knights goalie Zane Reifsteck for a score to give NKU a 3-1 advantage.
Beattie closed out the scoring at the 61:39 mark with his third goal of the contest off an assist from Andrews. Beattie, a junior striker from Skerries, Ireland, now has seven goals this season and passed former NKU All-American J.T. Roberts for third place on the school's all-time scoring list with 39 career goals.
NKU, which is ranked No. 2 nationally in the NCAA Division II poll, finished with a 13-6 edge in shot attempts. Bellarmine dropped to 3-1 overall, 1-1 in the GLVC.
NKU hits the road Thursday for a non-conference game at Ashland. The Norse resume GLVC action next Sunday when they visit Indianapolis.
